Video editing app CapCut has surpassed $100 million in consumer spend

The popularity of TikTokhas had a positive spillover effect for its sister app, CapCut.

For the uninitiated, CapCut is a video editing software that's often used to edit videos for TikTok. It's developed by ByteDance – the same people behind TikTok.

According to mobile data analytics firm data.ai, the video editing app surpassed $100 million in consumer spend across iOS and Google Play as of 11 September 2023.

The bulk of the consumer spend on CapCut comes from subscriptions with the annual subscription tier being the most profitable plan. CapCut also replaced Splice to become the most profitable video editing app globally in the first half of the year.

As of August this year, 490 million people use CapCut on their iPhones and Android phones. While CapCut remains popular in China, the US, and Southeast Asia, downloads increased significantly in Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America in the first half of the year compared to a year ago.

The seamless integration with TikTok is credited as the main driver of success for CapCut. Data.ai's findings reveal that TikTok has the highest cross-mobile usage index with CapCut, followed by Snapchat and Instagram.
