Google's Year In Search 2023 for Singapore is now out!

Singaporeans are kaypoh (Hokkien for “busybody”), but Google knows how truly kaypoh we can be.

Google revealed its annual Year In Search 2023 results, which gives us a glimpse of trending search queries by Singaporeans. It shows what caught our attention, with plenty of highlights that dotted an eventful year.

“25 years ago, Google Search was launched to help people find answers to questions big and small. Likewise in 2023, we continued to connect Singaporeans to the information they were looking for – from keeping abreast of local and global events, exploring new activities in the country and discovering the world of AI. This year, we have also reimagined the way we search with new generative AI capabilities such as Search Generative Experience that will help Singaporeans to understand a topic faster, uncover viewpoints and insights, and get things done more easily,” said Xiu Xian Ho, Communications Manager, Google Singapore.

According to Google’s Year In Search, they are all the top #1 searched queries by Singaporeans for their respective categories this year. The dual-release of two very different films (Barbie and Oppenheimer), along with one of Singapore’s biggest tourist attraction, along with getting more money and entertainment are the things Singaporeans cared enough about to search Google for answers.

Of course, tech geeks like us are not forgotten, with the passing of Creative Technology’s founder, Sim Wong Hoo, ranking 4th in celebrity farewells (R.I.P., Mr Sim), along with the news about ByteDance's TikTok CEO, Chew Shou Zi facing down poorly-informed US lawmakers on how the short video social media platform works.

Singaporeans are also very much in-tune with the major events on the world stage, with the ongoing war between Israel and Gaza being the #1 trending news for International News.

Google also announced its 2023 top trending YouTube videos for Singapore, including the recently concluded Presidential Elections news 2023 coverage, a behind-the-scenes look into Singapore Airlines’ in-fight meal prep, andinfluencer Naomi Neo’s house tour.
