Another source says Apple won't unveil M3 MacBooks until next year

The M2 MacBook Air was released nearly 1.5 years ago.

Waiting for Apple to announce its M3 chips before purchasing a new MacBook? You might not want to wait any longer.

According to a report by DigiTimes, it believes that Apple's market share will decline in 2023 as it transitions to chips built using a 3nm process in 2024. It said:

In 2023, the share of notebooks built using Arm-based processors will likely decrease rather than increase because Apple, which adopts in-house designed Arm-based CPUs for most of its notebook lineups, is expected to experience a significant decline in shipments in 2023 as the US brand vendor plans to transit to CPUs built by a 3nm node at TSMC for performance upgrading in 2024.

This corroboratesrecent reports that Apple won't have new Macs to show until next year.

The reasoning is quite simple. Apple only announced the new 15-inch MacBook Air in June this year and introducing the new M3 chip would likely upset customers who bought that notebook.

Also, Apple's eagerly-anticipated Vision Pro headset will only launch early next year and that's powered by an M2 chip. Again, announcing the M3 chip now would onlyserve to make the Vision Pro look dated at launch.

Apple's M3 chips are expected to be built using TSMC's new 3nm process – the same that's used to build Apple's new A17 Pro chips found in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.

Moving to a 3nm processwill be the biggest update to Apple's M-series of chips yet (Apple's M2 chips was built on a refined 5nm process) and should yield significant improvements in both performance and efficiency.
