MagSafe charging might be available on the next Apple iPad Pro
Apple might bring MagSafecharging to the 2024 iPad Pro.
The claim came from MacRumours, relying on a source "familiar with suppliers" that provide magnets for Apple devices.
This isn't the first time we've heard about wireless charging rumours on the iPad Pro tablet. Bloomberg reported in June 2021 that Apple testedan iPad Pro prototype with a glass backand explored a MagSafecharging system and reverse wireless charging.
However, 9to5Mac reported in January 2022 that the glass back design plans were likely dropped as the material was deemed too vulnerable to scratches and shatters. Bloomberg proceeded to update its predictions in March 2022 that the iPad Pro could support MagSafecharging.
MagSafe beyond iPhones
To recap,MagSafe charging was once an integral feature of the Apple MacBooks before it disappeared for a few years.
It was reintroduced in 2020 with the launch of the iPhone 12 Pro models. It is now supported on the iPhone, AirPods/AirPods cases, and MacBooks.
MagSafe uses an array of magnets around the wireless charging coil optimised for alignment and charging efficiency. The technology currently offers up to 15W wireless charging. TheQi2 wireless charging standard,due this holiday season, isbuilt on Apple's MagSafe technology.
As Apple is expected to have "a major revamp for the iPad Pro" in 2024 with an "updated design" and OLED panels, we won't be surprised if Apple expands MagSafe charging to the iPad Pro as a "new feature".
