Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village confirmed for Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
Capcom has made a significant move in expanding its footprint in the mobile gaming sector, announcing that Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village will soon be playable on Apple's iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. This milestone event will see the two popular games from the iconic survival horror series making their smartphone debut, courtesy of Apple's latest A17 Pro chip.
The company also confirmed that the titles are set to launch on iPad and Mac platforms in 2023. Resident Evil 4 will be available on every iPad and Mac featuring the M1 chip or newer, while Resident Evil Village will be accessible on the iPad Air and iPad Pro with the M1 chip or above.
Graphics have been a major talking point at the recent Apple Wonderlust event. According to Capcom, the games will boast visual fidelity that is said to rival that of the latest gaming consoles, further augmented by HDR support for enhanced realism.
The secret sauce for this performance boost? Capcom's RE ENGINE, which has been optimised to work with Apple's Metal framework. This integration enables the titles to fully leverage the capabilities of Apple's silicon and offers features like MetalFX Upscaling for improved performance and responsiveness on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Another noteworthy feature is the games' flexibility in control options. Players can opt for traditional game controllers or take advantage of multi-touch on-screen controls, making the gameplay experience highly customisable.
Adding a layer of convenience, Capcom is also introducing cross-progression functionality. This allows players to sync their game progress across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. The initial download will be free, letting players sample the high-end gameplay and visuals before making an in-app purchase to unlock the full game experience.
