Casio is celebrating G-SHOCK’s 40th anniversary with a new G-SHOCK design that uses carbon materials and resembles the first-ever G-SHOCK watch.

The new GCW-B5000UN is a new addition to Casio’s 5000-series G-SHOCK watches, which takes after the first G-SHOCK (DW-5000C). To show how far these shock-resistant watches have come, Casio uses carbon components made with different production processes to create the 40th-anniversary version.

It uses carbon-based materials for its case, bezel, band, and clasp, making the watch feel light at 65g (61% lighter than the full-metal, stainless steel GMW-B5000D at 167g).

To retain some flexibility, some parts of the watch use a carbon fibre and resin band (bezel and band), while the clasp and folding arm uses multilayer carbon for bending strength.

Finishing off the GCW-B5000UN is its outer space motif that harkens to the Bing Bang and planetary bodies from afar. It comes in two flavours: basic black and a purple mixed-colour mold with opal specks. These watches also have the G-SHOCK 40th anniversary logo (designed by Eric Haze) engraved on the watch's underside.

The Casio GCW-B5000UN retails at S$2,799 starting from 6 December 2023 on Casio’s online store. Physical store availability begins on 8 December 2023.
