In a blog post, OpenAI says that it is beginning to roll out new voice and image capabilities in ChatGPT to offer a new and more intuitive type of interface by allowing you to have a voice conversation or show ChatGPT what you’re talking about.

Unfortunately, the company says that this will only be rolling out to paying Plus and Enterprise users first, over the next two weeks, with everyone else getting it after that.

OpenAI isn’t the first company to include voice and images to its AI. Google has introduced extensions to trawl for information across apps like Gmail, lens, Docs, Drive, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Flights, and hotels.

Security concerns remain

OpenAI says the reason for the gradual rollout is that it allows it the time to make improvements and refine risk mitigations over time while also preparing everyone for more powerful systems in the future.

It added that this strategy became even more important with advanced models involving voice and vision as while the technology opened the door to many creative and accessibility-focused applications, these capabilities also presented new risks, such as the potential for malicious actors to impersonate public figures or commit fraud.OpenAI says it has limited ChatGPT’sability to analyse and make direct statements about peoplefor accuracy and privacy concerns.

OpenAI said to combat this, it only used voice actors it had directly worked with to create Voice chat. And Vision-based models were tested for risk in domains such as extremism and scientific proficiency among a diverse set of alpha testers. This allowed it to identify key details for responsible usage.

On iOS and Android, to get started with Voice, you first need to opt-in under your settings, then tap the headphone button located in the top-right corner of the home screen and choose your preferred voice out of five different voices.
