The DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

DJI just announced the Osmo Pocket 3, the successor to the two-year-old Pocket 2.

DJI upgrades the camera sensor from 1/1.7-inch on the Pocket 2 to a larger 1-inch CMOS sensor on the Osmo Pocket 3, so you can expect better image quality, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

Coupled with its specialised image quality optimisations, the Osmo Pocket 3 is able to take sharper low-light photos with greater dynamic range. In addition, the exposure will be refined for different skin tones for a clearer complexion in every frame.

Compared to the Hybrid 2.0 AF blend of phase and contrast detection on the Pocket 2, the Osmo Pocket 3 has full-pixel fast focus to ensure sharp focus with fast-moving subjects.

For professional-level creation, DJI adds 10-bit D-Log M and 10-bit HLG colour modes for accurate colours and vivid highlights.

Another new feature of the Osmo Pocket 3 is the 2-inch full-colour OLED rotatable touchscreen. The touchscreen can switch between horizontal and vertical modes for you to frame the perfect shot.

The Osmo Pocket 3 ships with ActiveTrack 6.0 which has major upgrades to the subject-tracking technology. For example, ActiveTrack 6.0 makes it less likely for the Osmo Pocket 3 to lose a subject in multi-person scenes due to obstructions, or to start tracking another person by mistake. ActiveTrack 6.0 can also follow subjects reliably during movements with fast or dramatic movements.

In terms of battery life, the Osmo Pocket 3 can last longer than its predecessor. It can record up to 116 minutes of 4K/60fps footage or up to 166 minutes of 1080p/24fps footage (compared to 140 minutes on the Pocket 2).

The Osmo Pocket 3's battery can also charge faster.DJI claims it can be charged to 80% in 16 minutes while a full charge of the Pocket 2 takes almost 5x longer.

Overall, the new Osmo Pocket 3 looks like a significant upgrade over the old Osmo Pocket 2. It has a larger sensor, better recording capabilities, improvedautofocusing, a larger touchscreen, and longer battery life.
