Google I/O 2023: Google's generative AI chatbot Bard is now available in 180 countries, including Singapore
Google's advanced AI chatbot, Bard, powered by their latest Large Language Model, PaLM 2, is now accessible globally across 180 countries and territories, including Singapore. The cutting-edge technology underlying Bard enhances its proficiency, making it an unprecedented tool in the AI field.
Launched in February 2023, Bard initially failed to meet Google's (and ours) expectations. Nevertheless, the company's refinement process led to an array of new features and functionalities that greatly improved Bard's capabilities.
Among the most remarkable additions is Bard's capacity to produce visual responses to inquiries. Using Google’s Lens application, in the future users will be able to upload images to be analysed by Bard. Google used the example of the photo of two dogs with the prompt “write a funny caption for these two” and Bard will be able to determine the breed of dogs and draft responses.
Google's future plans include bolstering Bard's code generation capabilities. Users can soon execute the produced programming code via platforms like Replit or seamlessly integrate their generated content into Docs or Gmail.
Driven by community feedback, Google continues to enhance and modify Bard. It will now offer source links for any generated code or chatbot responses, ensuring transparency. Users can also look forward to a newly designed Dark theme for enhanced usability.
Despite being in the developmental phase, Bard is already shaping up as a potent instrument with diverse applications. Its promising potential could render it an invaluable resource for both businesses and individuals in the foreseeable future. More importantly, it aims to be Google's counter to OpenAI's impressive ChatGPT.
