Hyundai Motor Group launches two pilot programs to boost last-mile delivery

Hyundai Motor Group robots get rolling with pilot programs to advance last-mile delivery.

Hyundai Motor Group announced it has started two pilot delivery service programs using autonomous robots based on its Plug & Drive (PnD) modular platform at a hotel and a residential-commercial complex.

The PnD modular platform, which was seen at CES 2022, is an all-in-one single wheel unit that utilises intelligent steering, braking, in-wheel electric drive, suspension hardware, LiDAR and camera sensors to move around. It also has an integrated storage unit to transport items to customers.

The autonomous driving capability allows the PnD-based robot to find the optimal route within the area to deliver packages to customers. It can also detect and avoid fixed and moving objects.

At Rolling Hills Hotel, the PnD-based robot is used to deliver amenities, food and drinks to customers' rooms. At the residential-commercial complex, the robot carries out food delivery services by picking up restaurant orders through an app, and delivering them to customers' doors.
