With the limited number and type of ports found in most notebooks these days, the use of docks and hubs has become familiar to most users. In line with this, Microsoft has announced its newest Surface Dock, the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock.

This new dock is made with 20% ocean-bound plastic and connects to devices via USB-C. It also features USB4/Thunderbolt 4 so users can easily connect to two 4K monitors at up to 60Hz (with the right support), experience fast data transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps and charge their device with up to 96W of power, along with extra energy to charge accessories.

To do all this, it comes with three USB-Cports(USB 4 Thunderbolt 4, video display enabled, 15 W), three 5Gbps USB-A ports, a 3.5mm audio jack, a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, and a security lock slot.

While Microsoft only advertises compatibility with its own devices, the fact that the Surface Dock comes with Thunderbolt 4 means that it should be usable with most devices that use USB-C and Thunderbolt.

However, there are some omissions like a HDMI port, Display Port, or storage card reader. So while this could be the perfect dock for some, if you are looking for HDMI connectvity, you would need to look elsewhere.

The Microsoft Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock is available now from the Microsoft online store for S$475. Another option can be the Logitech Logi Dock. While it is a pricier alternative at S$670, it pulls double duty as a speaker and a hub. You can also check out our buying guide on docks and hubs for other recommendations.
