In celebration of global One Piece Day, Netflix has dropped the trailer for its upcoming live action series One Piece. The highly anticipated series is based on the manga of the same name, created byEiichiro Oda. It is Japan's highest-selling manga series in history, and has also found a rapt global following outside of Japan.

One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) and his friends on the high seas. A young adventurer who has longed for a life of freedom since he can remember, Luffy sets off from his small village on a perilous journey to find the legendary fabled treasure, One Piece, in order to become King of the Pirates.

But in order to find the ultimate prize, Luffy will have to outwit dangerous rivals at every turn as he takes on the vast blue seas.

Manga author Oda has been deeply involved in the live action adaptation and serves as executive producer. Fans can be assured that the series will be faithful to his vision— in a letter released alongside the trailer, Oda says that he requested for several scenes to be reshot because he felt they weren't good enough. "There were no compromises on this show!" he says.

Conceived seven years ago, all eight episodes of the live action series will finally hit Netflix on August 31.

One Piece also starsMackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
