Samsung unveils 4TB variant of its 990 Pro NVMe SSD – for a premium

Samsung has expanded its SSD portfolio by launching a 4TB version of the 990 Pro NVMe SSD. Although the price tag is steep, the drive comes with specs that may justify the investment for some users.

The 4TB 990 Pro is not the fastest SSD on the market, being a PCIe 4.0 drive. However, it does offer sequential read and write speeds of 7,450MBps and 6,900MBps respectively. Random read and write speeds clock in at 1,600K and 1,550K IO’s per second. Moreover, the total bytes written are rated up to 2,400 terabytes.

While the performance metrics are impressive, potential buyers should be prepared to pay $439 for a unit without a heatsink and $459 for one with a heatsink. The drives are set to hit the market on October 2.

We reviewed the 2TB version last year, giving it a score of 9/10 and considered it as the best PCIe 4.0 SSD in the market. How the 4TB performs is still up the air, but we do have a review of it in the works. So stay tuned.
