Samsung's latest Portable SSD T9 external drive can transfer data at up to 2,000MB/s
Samsung has a new external portable SSD called the Portable SSD T9. It supports the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 and is twice as fast as the older Portable SSD T7.
The Portable SSD T9 has a USB-C port and, according to Samsung, itsmaximum sequential read and write speeds, when used with a compatible USB 3.2 Gen2x2 device and in UASP mode, are a whopping 2,000MB/s.
The high transfer speeds make this drive ideal for professionals who work with high-resolution photos and videos. For security, it features 256-bit AES encryption.
It'll work with all sorts of devices, from Windows PCs to Macs, Android phones and tablets, and also gaming consoles and 12K cameras.
Curiously, support for iPhone is missing from the spec sheet, even if theiPhone 15 Pro and Pro Maxhave USB-C ports that support USB 3.0.
And if you use it with a device that only has ports that support USB 3.2 Gen2 speeds, then the drive would perform slower – at 10Gbps speeds which would mean around 1,000MB/s.
The drive features Dynamic Thermal Guard, which prevents overheating and performance throttling, and it has a rubberised outer that protects it from drops. Samsung says it is resistant to drops of up to 3 metres.
One more thing worth mentioning is that the Portable SSD T9 will come with a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-A to USB-C cable. That's very helpful because the latter is quite hard to find.
