In March, Samsung’s new SSD T7 Touch, a portable external SSD with a fingerprint scanner (hence the ‘touch’ in the name), went on sale in Singapore with a starting price of S$222. Turns out, there’s also a non-touch version.

Announced in Germany recently, the T7 looks just like the T7 Touch but without the fingerprint scanner at the top of the case, and is available in either red, blue or grey.

Like the Touch version, this regular T7 also uses Samsung’s V-NAND storage technology with NVMe support and touts read and write speeds of up to 1,050MB/s and 1,000MB/s respectively (when using USB 3.2 Gen 2 and UASP).

While there’s no fingerprint scanner, data stored on the T7 can still be protected with a password using the optional AES 256-bit hardware encryption. The 58g SSD is also able to withstand drops from a height of up to 2m thanks to its metal housing and reinforced inner frame.

The Samsung SSD T7 is available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB storage capacities, priced at €135 (~S$209), €215 (~S$332) and €405 (~S$626) respectively. We’ll share more details when the drive lands on our shores.
