Sharp finally brings its AQUOS XLED TVs to the region

The 65-inch model is launching 1 June

Sharp has announced the availability of its AQUOS XLED TVs from 1 June 2023.

Sold in 75-inches and 65-inches in size, Sharp’s AQUOS XLED 4K TV comes features what the company calls Xtreme mini-LED technology. It uses Deep Chroma QD technology or quantum dot technology to convert the wavelength of the backlight to enable highly pure generation of the three primary colours to achieve superb brightness and contrast and a wide colour gamut and comes with over 2,000 backlight dimming zones.

According to Sharp, each AQUOS XLED TV has 88 times more backlight LEDs that deliver six times the brightnesscompared to a Sharp 4K model launched for the ASEAN region in 2022.

The ARSS+ Speaker Surround System takes charge of directional audio through 11 speakers (Including four up-firing speakers) with a maximum audio output of 85W, to create an immersive audio experience.

Powered by Google TV, users will get recommendations based on their previous viewings. Sharp has also pre-installed some Sharp-exclusive apps such as allowing users to view and manage images on the TVfor a personalised screensaver.

It also comes with support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision IQ technologies. For a bit of backstory, Dolby Vision was introduced in 2014, making it one of the earliest and most recognized HDR formats. HDR10+ is a royalty-free open standardHDR format competitor that also uses dynamic metadata (like Dolby Vision) to vary brightness scene-by-scene or even on a frame-by-frame basis.Meanwhile, Dolby Vision IQ is the latest iteration from Dolby that detectsroom ambient light levels via sensors on the front of the TVand pairs that data with the dynamic metadata of the Dolby Vision content to better adjust HDR picture brightness. This means it not only improves thepicture performance of your TV whether you watch in a bright or dark roombut is also tuned to deliver the way it's meant to be watched. So it's great that Sharp's AQUOS XLED supports Dolby Vision IQ.

The sales growth that Sharp hopes to achieve.

During the launch of the TV in Osaka Japan, Hirofumi Okamoto, BU President of Sharp Corporation’s TV Systems Business Unit said that the company is expecting to grow sales in the ASEAN region by double-digit growth in 2023. When asked about the various regional economies being impacted by inflation and whether this could hit their sales plans, Daisuke Hirasawa, Division Manager, Global Products Planning Division at Sharp, spoke about third-party analyst reports that gave them confidence in their plans.

However, Koich Kyomura, the Executive Director at Sharp’s retail partner Yamada Denki said that he wasn’t expecting a dramatic sales increase saying that the youth in Japan were watching less television and were happy watching on a tablet or other smart device.
