Sony has announced its two new additions to the Sony α7C (Alpha 7C) series camera lineup, bolstering its slew of compact, full-frame, interchangeable lens cameras with the Sony α7C II and Sony α7CR.

Both models come with the same AI-processing unit and BIONZ XR image-processing engine, which are also present in the Sony α7R V (review here) and α6700.

They also come with 5-axis in-body image stabilisation, 4:2:2 10-bit video recording up to 4K60FPS, AI-based Auto Framing, and digital-audio interface support.

For intuitive use, both pack a vari-angle LCD monitor, touch menu, a XGA high-res viewfinder, and smartphone pairing via the mobile Creators’ App. These cameras are compatible with Sony E-mount lenses.

The α7C II is Sony’s second-generation version of its α7C series, built for various shooting scenarios like travel and street photography.

As a compact full-frame camera, you get a 33MP Exmor R CMOS sensor for capturing still images and videos. It offers an ISO range of 100 to 51,200, with an expanded ISO range of 50 to 204,800 for still images. It’s merely 514g (battery weight included), making it significantly lighter than its R-series counterparts.

The Sony α7CR gets a 61MP Exmor R CMOS sensor instead of the sibling’s 33MP version. It features an ISO range of 100 to 32,000, with additional ISO 50 to 102,400 for still images.

Additionally, it comes with 7.0-step, optical, 5-axis in-body image stabilisation that can handle pixel-level blur detection and correction.

A unique shooting mode it has is Pixel Shift Multi Shooting, which lets you snap multiple images for post-processing on a PC to create a final image that appears high-res.

Finally, the Sony GP-X2 grip extension comes included with the Sony α7CR.
