Sony’s new HT-AX7 has arrived to change the way you think about sound and deliver a new way to enjoy entertainment with room-filling sound, anywhere throughout your home. simply placing the three speakers of the system around you, you can enjoy your music not only in your living room but also in bedrooms, balconies, or any other space you desire.

The HT-AX7 comprises three components – a main speaker and two circular satellite speakers and uses Sony's 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology to create a 3D sound bubble. This is somewhat like sound object technology, for example, Dolby Atmos, but they've taken the concept quite a few steps further to create a 360-sound experience, so the sound appears to be coming from all around you – front, behind, the side, and even above your head.

To further add to this 360-sound experience, the HT-AX7 also features Sony's upmixer algorithm which can transform stereo into 3D surround sound. The upmixer analyses sound in real time and separates individual sound objects, redistributing them to create a more immersive listening experience. Activate the sound field effect to experience a surround sound-like effect, even with 2-channel content such as content from streaming services so even your movie sound effects become 3D.

Position them wherever you want

The main speaker and satellite speakers can be placed anywhere as they are all wireless and can be moved around easily without any concern for configuration. I may be showing my age, but I would have liked a wired alternative as a backup option.

It uses Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, has a stackable form factor that is light and compact enough to be carried in one hand and can recharged via a single USB-C. Plus, the 2 satellite speakers can charge wirelessly via their docks on top of the main speaker unit. Sony claims a maximum battery life of 30-hours while a ten-minute quick charge is enough to give it 150 minutes of playback. It should take four and a half hours to fully charge the HT-AX7.
