Starfield gears up for NVIDIA DLSS integration with upcoming beta test on Steam
Bethesda is close to adding NVIDIA's advanced graphics technology into Starfield, seeking input from the PC gaming community through a beta test on Steam.
The forthcoming update is set to incorporate DLSS with frame generation, eitherDLSS 3 or 3.5, along with enhanced display and HDR controls for compatible systems. This move addresses a notable gap, as the absence of DLSS support in Starfield had previously raised concerns. AMD, termed as the "exclusive PC partner", had to reassure that it would fully back Bethesda if the latter opted to include NVIDIA's technology. Post-launch, modders swiftly introduced unofficial DLSS support, demonstrating its potential to boost performance for PCs equipped with GeForce RTX-based graphics cards.
While Starfield already incorporates AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution 2 (aka FSR 2), Bethesda has acknowledged plans for a future upgrade to FSR 3, which includes AMD's own frame generation technology.
Bethesda has also committed to other enhancements, such as an FOV slider and support for 32:9 ultrawide monitors. The full scope of these updates will become clearer when the beta test commences this week, ahead of the update's general release on Xbox and PC. Steam users who own Starfield can express their interest in participating in the beta by navigating to the game in their Steam library, accessing settings through the gear icon, and then selecting properties. Within the emerging menu, a 'betas' section should be available, offering a dropdown box for beta participation options.
