Synology has announced they are releasing a new consumer SATA HDD, the Plus series, that still comes with some of its enterprise-level HDD features.

Coming in 4TB, 6 TB, 8 TB, and 12 TB capacities, the three smaller drives have a 5,400rpm and a transfer speed of 202MB/s with the 12TB having speeds of7,200rpm and 240MB/s. They all feature 256MB cache and have a 6GB/s SATA Interface.

When we asked Synology, we were told that the drives wereConventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) drives.

Other features the Plus series drives include:

One million hours mean time between failures (MTBF) and 180 TB/year workload rating. To put this in perspective, Seagate’s IronWolf class of HDDs has the same specs but are targeted NAS drives. Synology’s own enterprise SATA drives have a 2.5-million-hour MTTF rating and 241MB’s to 274MB/s transfer speed.Over 300,000 hours of stringent compatibility and stress testing ensure smooth operation even under multi-user workloads.Users can update drives directly from Synology's DiskStation Manager (DSM), eliminating the need to remove drives to perform manual updates, and can receive direct customer support through their Synology account.
