19 October 2023 update: Vivo V29 launches in SG on 21 Oct. Prices and availability appended below.
Vivo just announced the Vivo V29 for 39 markets around the world, bringing its expertise in smartphone technology to selfie lovers and mobile livestreamers who need better lighting at their fingertips.
Aura Light for colour-corrected selfies
Core to the Vivo V29’s speciality is its vastly improved Aura Light — what Vivo calls its built-in, light temperature-changing ring flash. It’s an additional flash next to the V29’s standard LED flash and triple rear camera setup.
Aura Light offers a 36% increase in brightness when compared to its predecessor, the V27. The light it emits is nine times the size of a standard phone LED flash, letting it create a three-dimensional lighting effect that eliminates shadows and dark areas on faces.
Added to Aura Light is Smart Colour Temperature Adjustment, where the special ring light detects your environment's lighting conditions and decides on a colour temperature to complement your selfies and videos.
A powerful ring light can only shine with the help of powerful cameras. Vivo V29’s 50MP front camera comes with an expanded field-of-view and AutoFocus, making it possible to take sharp group photos with minimal distortion.
On the rear comes a 50MP OIS (optical image stabilisation) Ultra-Sensing Camera and two other cameras for low-light performance. Additional modes include Supermoon Mode for night sky shooting, Astro Mode for taking pictures of the Milky Way, Vlog Movie Creator for vlogging templates and editing, and finally Ultra Stable Video for OIS and EIS to grant you 10,000 stabilisation movements per second.
Vivo V29 hardware
As a phone, the Vivo V29 packs a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G supported by an Ultra Large VC (vapour chamber) Bionic Cooling System, which offers 5G network compatibility and powers all its features. Inside is 12GB RAM (with 8GB virtual RAM via Memory Booster), a 4,600mAh battery with 80W FlashCharge fast-charging.
Topping it all off is a 6.78-inch 3D curved AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and “1.5K” pixel resolution offering a pixel density of 452 PPI. Without the spec sheet in hand, we can only presume this means the Vivo V29’s display panel is rated much higher than a typical 1080p Full HD screen.
