Amazon rolls out passkey support its iOS app with Android support coming soon
Amazon is rolling out passkey support on browsers and its iOS mobile shopping app, offering customers an easier and safer way to sign into their Amazon accounts.
Passkey support is available today for all Amazon customers using browsers and is gradually rolling out on the iOS Amazon Shopping app with support coming soon for users on Android-based devices.
Customers can now set up passkeys in their Amazon settings, allowing them to easily use the same face, fingerprint, or PIN used to unlock their device.
Passkeys are the new darling in security and identity management. TikTok, Google, and even WhatsApp have announced support for, or that they are working to support, passkeys.
When using a passkey, a user logs in using a pre-authenticated device and by using methods that they are highly familiar with like biometrics or a passcode. This login data only exists on the device, which means that there's no password that can be stolen in a traditional phishing or hacking attack, and a user no longer needs to worry about remembering unique passwords or using easy-to-guess identifiers, like names or birthdays.
Setting it up
Customers can enrol for passkeys in a few simple steps:
Select a browser or iOS Amazon Shopping app with the passkey updateGo to “Your Account”Choose “Login & Security”Select “Set up” option next to “Passkeys” and follow the quick step-by-step instructions.
Once customers have added a passkey to their account, they can sign in with a passkey on supported devices or browsers using their lock screen PIN or biometrics to confirm their identity.
