Apple launches super thin 2023 24-inch iMacs with new M3 chips

Apple today (31 October 2023) was all treat with no tricks during its morning keynote, bringing us its 3-nanometer M3 chipset series, a new line of MacBook Pros with the new hardware, and an update to its colourful 24-inch iMac lineup.

The new Apple M3 silicon series features three main variants, with the base M3, an M3 Pro, and M3 Max for personal computing — all are 2.5x faster than Apple M1’s family of processors.

That means the new 24-inch iMacswith M3 by Apple are faster and more powerful than its predecessor, the 24-inch iMac with M1 chip, along with everything folks love about its all-in-one form factor.

The personal desktop computer offers a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display (rated at 4,480 x 2,520 pixels resolution) with 500 nits of brightness and P3 colour gamut, supporting up to one billion colours. With processor and display specs hand-in-hand, the new iMacs are designed to take on the needs of small businesses, creatives, students, and even gaming.

In fact, Apple said the new 24-inch M3 iMacs can surf the web 30% faster using Safari, perform 30% faster in productivity apps like Microsoft Excel, edit and play up to 3x more streams of 4K video up to a total of 12, and process photos in Adobe Photoshop 2x faster. All this is compared to its preceding 2020 iMac with M1.

All this is on top of well-loved features like Continuity (seamless interoperation between iMac, iPhone, and iPad), Touch ID for Apple Pay, and a 1080p FaceTime camera for video calls and meetings.

It’s also not short on connectivity options with Wi-Fi 6E support, Bluetooth 5.3 compatibility, four USB-C ports, two of which are Thunderbolt ports for data transfer. It has Thunderbolt 3 video output, native DisplayPort output via its USB-C, and supports one external 6K at 60Hz monitor.

Apple also kept the look of its iMac consistent with its predecessor, featuring an 11.5mm thin design in seven colours (green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver).

The base model starts with an 8-core GPU, 8-core CPU, and 8GB of unified memory, along with 256GB SSD storage, two Thunderbolt ports, along with its Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse included.

You can max it out witha 10-core GPU version, with 24GB of unified memory, 2TB of SSD storage, with additional USB 3 ports and a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID — if you are willing to splurge.

The new 24-inch iMac with M3 is available in Singapore, starting at S$1,899 for the 8-core GPU version, and S$2,199 for the 10-core GPU variant. Pre-orders begin on 1 November 2023, with retail availability on 7 November 2023.
