Purported HomePod with LCD display revealed
Apple might update the HomePod with a LCD display in 2024.
Tipster @KosutamiSan shared an image of a purported HomePod prototype with LCD display. The LCD display appears to occupy a larger area than the panel on the HomePod (2nd generation).
9to5Mac claims it verified the authenticity of the image with sources and revealed more details. Codenamed B720, the HomePod with LCD display is said to be an advanced-stage prototype that "is being actively worked on by Apple". This indicates that this HomePod might launch in 2024.
In addition, the LCD display is tipped to show some animations based on the colours of the album art of the song being played. It could also potentially be used to answer phone calls and reply messages.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported in March that Apple will launch a redesigned HomePod with a 7-inch display in the first half of 2024. The new HomePod could be one of the four new smart home products from Apple in 2024.
The other upcoming smart home products include a new HomePod mini, a product for the kitchen that combines an iPad and a speaker, and a product for the living room that combines the Apple TV, camera and HomePod.
