Apple releases watchOS 10.1, brings double tap to the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Series 9

Apple has just released watchOS 10.1, which brings the new eagerly-anticipated double tap feature to the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Series 9.

To recap, double tap is a new gesture feature designed to let you control your watch with just your thumb and index finger. This can come in handy if you only have one hand free.

To trigger it, you simply tap your thumb and index finger together. Double tap is a system-wide feature and it's contextual, which means it can be used to do various things depending on what app you are using.

For example, if you are in your watch face, double tapping will bring up the Smart Stack and subsequent taps will scroll through your widgets. If you receive a call, you can double tap to answer it. And if you are listening to music or a podcast, double tapping can pause and resume.

Check it out in action below:

Aside from double tap for the new Apple Watches, watchOS 10.1 also fixes the annoying Weather complication bug on older Apple Watches. The bug causes the Weather complication to show a blank reading on your watch face, which, needless to say, is extremely misleading.

To update to watchOS 10.1, go to the Watch app on your iPhone, then go to General, and then Software Update. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your Apple Watch.
