These features could be dropped to make a cheaper Apple Vision Pro
Apple is said to be dropping these features to cut costs for the development of a cheaper Vision Pro model.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg shared that Apple is considering ditching the EyeSight feature on the cheaper Vision Pro model. The EyeSight feature uses advanced technologies to project a 3D render of the user's face and eyes onto the external front-facing OLED panel.
Apple is also expected to use fewer external cameras and sensors on the cheaper Vision Pro model. Furthermore,Gurman reiterated that the cheaper Vision Pro model could be equipped with a less powerful processor and have lower quality screens.
While analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks the cheaper Vision Pro model has been cancelled, Gurman says Apple is doubling down on the project.
According to Gurman, Apple has reallocated resources from the development of standalone AR glasses for the cheaper Vision Pro model. The cheaper Vision Pro model is said to be priced between US$1,500 to US$2,500, which is a price drop of about US$1,000 to US$2,000 from the full-fledged Vision Pro.
Gurmanalso added that the next-generation Vision Pro is in the works, and Apple's priority is to make the device smaller and lighter so that it is more comfortable to wear. The next-generation Vision Pro could support the integration of prescription lenses, unlike the current Vision Pro which requires lens inserts from Zeiss.
Even though critics mostly agreethat there is currentlyno single clear purpose or "killer app" for the Vision Pro, Apple is still going ahead to work on two different models as the company strongly believes spatial computing is the future of computing and work.
