Google starts trial for generative AI search engine in Singapore
Google is running a trial for its “Search Generative Experience” (SGE) in more than 120 countries as an opt-in experiment in its Search Labs feature.
Users in Singapore can try out generative AI responses for search results in English. SGE lets you get new functionality out of your search queries, or even try questions that Google Search was unable to answer before.
Using generative AI, SGE now shows an overview of key information and links to a wider range of sources on the results page.
One key difference is your search results become conversational in nature, with possible follow-up questions below and available for exploration. In the example given on Google’s blog, a user can ask about running with pet beagles, before pivoting into hiking with the dog. Google’ SGE will understand the conversant nature of your queries and serve up relevant answers.
Another key difference is the inclusion of other people's experiences, which helps users access more useful information already shared on forums or social media sites.
Besides English, SGE also comes in four other languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Indonesian.
To get SGE, you can either visit this link on desktop, or tap on the beaker logo in your Google app on mobile (iOS and Android).
