Tang Tan is in charge of product design for the iPhone and Apple Watch. He is leaving the company in February 2024.

Apple's product design chief for the iPhone and Apple Watch is stepping down.

Bloomberg's report states that Tang Tan, the VP of product design, will be leaving Apple in February 2024. Aside from the iPhone and Apple Watch, Tan also managed the design of accessories and the acoustics team.

Under Tan's leadership, the iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods became significant growth engines for the company. His departure is likely to lead to a restructuring of Apple's hardware engineering group.

Sources familiar with the matter shared with Bloomberg that several team members of Tan will be assigned new roles. Richard Dinh, the head of iPhone product design, will now report directly to John Ternus, Senior VP of hardware engineering. Kate Bergeron, a hardware engineering executive, will take over the design of the Apple Watch.

John Ternus was previously Vice President of hardware engineering and worked on the design of the iPhone 12 series as well as the transition of the Mac to Apple Silicon with the M1 chips. He was promoted to Sevior VP in 2021, and directly reports to Apple CEO Tim Cook.
