The Leica Cine 1 is a gorgeous-looking ultra-short throw premium projector, available now
Leica, a company with a 169-year history in camera and optics innovation, has recently stepped into the home entertainment market with its latest offering, the Cine 1, an ultra-short throw projector.
The Cine 1 is a result of Leica's collaboration with Hisense, a partnership announced in August 2022 and showcased at the IFA Conference in Berlin in September 2022. As with all Leica products, this projector is positioned as a luxury item, and aims to appeal to consumers familiar with Leica's reputation for quality in the optics and imaging sector.
One of the most notable features of the Cine 1 is its design. The projector sports a rugged aluminum body, complete with a sliding dust cover and a front speaker grille, adorned with the iconic Leica red-dot logo.
At its core, the Cine 1 boasts a triple-laser RGB Hisense light engine, like those found in Hisense's high-end ultra-short throw projectors. It features a single-chip DLP system using Texas Instrument's 0.47-inch micromirror device, coupled with XPR four-phase pixel-shifting technology, allowing it to deliver full UHD resolution (3840×2160 pixels). The projector is rated at 3,000 ANSI lumens for brightness and has a 25,000-hour lifespan. Its dynamic contrast ratio is an impressive 2,000,000:1, and it surpasses the BT.2020 color gamut, offering an exceptionally wide range of colors.
Leica's expertise in optics is evident in the Cine 1's 0.25:1 Summicron lens, which includes four aspherical elements for sharp imaging. The company has also applied its Leica Image Optimization (LIO) technology to enhance natural colors, detailed gradations, and contrast in the projector's picture modes.
For the tech-savvy, the Cine 1 supports HDR10, HLG, and, notably, Dolby Vision HDR processing. It also incorporates a Google TV streaming platform, allowing access to 4K content from major streaming services, including Netflix. Additionally, it comes equipped with a Next-Gen TV ATSC off-air tuner and a Dolby Atmos-compatible audio system, featuring two 25-watt speakers.
Leica is offering two models of the Cine 1, differentiated by the size of the image they project: 100- and 120-inch. The Cine 1 100-inch is priced at S$12,790, and the Cine 1 120-inch model at S$13,540. These projectors are currently available at the Leica Store at Raffles Hotel Arcade.
