As part of its 15th anniversary as a national centre for cancer, the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) marked the occasion with the launch of the "NCIS Celebrates Life" carnival.

The two-day family carnival, held on 4 and 5 November 2023 at Suntec City Atrium (Tower 3 & 4), will highlight NCIS’ achievements, honour cancer survivors, aim to educate the public on cancer treatment and developments, and raise funds to advance cancer research.

As part of the celebrations, NCIS announced the launch of NCIS Fights Cancer, a specially commissioned web-based mobile game to raise funds for NCIS Cancer Fund while educating players on cancer prevention and screening.

In this free web game, players aim to obtain high scores by avoiding obstacles and collecting objects. Players can acquire more game attempts by taking actions such as donating to the NCIS Cancer Fund or sharing a cancer-related health tip.

For example, a player could share that, “Cigarette smoke contains about 40 different cancer-causing substances” and “Chemicals found in salted or preserved food, such as salted fish or pickled vegetables, may lead to stomach and nasopharynx cancers. Always remember to eat in moderation!”

There are also in-game objects players can share information about. This could be “Vegetables contain fibre and vitamins, which can help to reduce your risk of developing colorectal and stomach cancers. Add them to your daily meals” or “Did you know that orange and yellow fruits such as cantaloupes and grapefruits, contain more vitamins and minerals that can help you reduce the risk of colorectal and stomach cancers?”
