Netflix removes basic ad-free plan in the U.S and the U.K

Netflix has removed its basic ad-free plan in the U.S and the U.K.

The basic ad-free plan, which costs US$9.99 (S$12.98) is no longer available for new or rejoining subscribers. Current subscribers of the basic plan are not affected unless they change plan or cancel it.

With the basic ad-free plan removed, Netflix's most affordable option is the the ad-supported plan which offers videos at HD quality, an average of four to five minutes of ads per hour, and a limited content catalogue.

Netflix has been intensifying its efforts to boost profits in the video streaming industry. In April last year, the company announced it lost 200,000 subscribers globally compared to Q4 2021 which is a first in 10 years!

It is stopping users from sharing accounts by expanding the password-sharing crackdown to more countries including Singapore over the past few months. This led to an increase of almost 6 million new subscribers.
