Samsung's 50MP ISOCELL GNK sensor has higher dynamic range and better video capabilities
Samsung has just announced a new mobile image sensor, the 50MP ISOCELL GNK.
As the successor to the three-year-old ISOCELL GN1, the ISOCELL GNK comes with several upgrades such asDual Pixel Pro autofocus, higher dynamic range, less noise, and better video recording capabilities.
The ISOCELL GNK delivers a higher dynamic range with the use of three different ISO modes; they can shoot images with a dynamic range of up to 102dB.
In addition, the single frame-based Smart-ISO Pro enhances dynamic range while reducing motion artifact, and delivers photos with colour depth as high as 14-bit.
With two photodiodes per pixel, the ISOCELL GNK's Dual Pixel Pro autofocus allows the camera to quickly focus on moving objects whenever they are in the frame.
In terms of video recording capabilities, the ISOCELL GNK can shoot 8K videos at 30fps with minimal loss in the field of view. Moreover, it also supports autofocus and HDR video in FHD mode with frame rates of up to 240fps.
Samsung did not state the availability of the ISOCELL GNK sensor. However, we believe it is likely to pop up on the upcoming Galaxy S24 series and/or other upcoming Android phones.
