Samsung launches a portable SSD with a whopping 8TB storage
Samsung launched a new series of portable, external solid-state drives (SSDs) called the Samsung T5 EVO, combining speed and volume into a compact, sleek, yet durable package.
The Samsung T5 EVO uses USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps), with sequential read and write speeds of up to 480MB/s. It’s fast in every way, with storage speeds 3.8x faster than conventional external HDDs.
Despite its sleek appearance, the T5 EVO is drop-resistant up to 2 metresand can reliably operate in temperatures between 0 °C and 60°C. It’s also highly compact (40 x 95 x 17mm) and light, at 102g, almost half the weight of a conventional Android smartphone.
Additional features include Samsung’s proprietary Dynamic Thermal Guard technology to avoid overheating, support for hardware data encryption (AES 256-bit), and matching software (Samsung Magician Software).
The T5 EVO is compatible with PCs, laptops, tablets, or smartphones running Windows, macOS, or Android.
If you’re willing to pay for it, Samsung has an 8TB variant alongside 2 and 4TB versions. For reference, 8TB storage lets you keep up to 3,500 videos if each file is ~2GB. Each Samsung T5 EVO comes with a USB C-to-C cable and a three-year warranty.

Samsung T5 EVO officially goes to retail on 22 November 2023 at the Samsung Online Store and official Samsung platforms (Lazada, Shopee). The variants are at the following prices:
