Sony launches slimmer versions of the PS5 with removable disc drives for the holidays
As the holiday season approaches, Sony has announced new versions of its PlayStation 5 gaming console.
The new consoles have a similar white aesthetic but are noticeably sleeker. Sony says they have managed to reduce its volume by 30% and its weight by up to 24%. The biggest change here is that there's now a removable side panel that you can replace with a disc drive.
This means you can opt for the Digital Edition of the PlayStation 5 and then add the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive later. Sony will sell the disc drive separately.
The ports on the front have also been updated. There are now two USB-C ports instead of a single USB-C and single USB-A ports.
Storage has been increased slightly. Sony says these two models will come with 1TB of storage, which is a small bump from the 825GB found on the current consoles.
The new PlayStation 5 consoles will come with a horizontal stand. Sony also has a new vertical stand that will work with both these new consoles and older ones, which will be sold separately.
