Xiaomi partners with Google to bring Wear OS to the Watch 2 Pro

During the launch of Xiaomi’s 13T smartphone, the company also took the opportunity to reveal its newest wearables, the Google Wear OS-enabled Watch 2 Pro and the Smart Band 8.

Samsung, Oppo, Hublot, and even Xiaomi, have jumped on Google’s Wear OS bandwagon. Xiaomi's first iterations, the Mi Watch, was launched in 2019and came powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, and 1GB of RAM. It also ran an MIUI for Watch skin, which was based on Google Wear OS.

The new Watch 2 Pro features a round face and bezel, much like a Samsung. It also has a rotating crown with two customisable buttons on either sideand a stainless-steel chassis. It will be available in two colours, a silver case with brown leather strap or a black case with black fluoro rubberstrap. Xiaomi has preloaded 20 watch faces with more than 200 faces available for download to personalise your Watch 2 Pro.

With Google Wear OS, the Watch 2 Pro has access to over 200 apps via the Google Play Store as well as Google’s own services like Gmail, Wallet, and Maps. User can also use their voice to launch Google Assistant.

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage, it features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display that has a 466 × 466 resolution, up to 600 nits of brightness, and 326 ppi. You also get 4G LTE, Wi-Fi connectivity as well as Bluetooth 5.2 and dual-band GPS/GNSS

It can track you in more than 150 sports modes so you can use optimised professional algorithms to provide accurate exercise data and analysis to help improve your performance even further.

Using bioelectrical impedance sensors, optical heart rate sensor, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, ambient light sensor, electronic compass sensor, and scientific algorithms, the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro can measure all sorts of health data, such as body fat levels, basic metabolic rate, blood pressure, and bone salinity. When it comes to sleep tracking, it can differentiate between different sleep stages and monitor data like heart rate, blood oxygen levels, and breathing quality.

The 495mAh battery with magnetic charging gives the LTE version up to 55 hours of battery life,while the Bluetooth version has up to 65 hours of battery life.

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro will come priced at £229.99 (~S$332.82) for the Wi-Fi-only model, with the eSIM-supportedmodel costing £279.99 (~S$405.18). No release date has been given, so we will update this article when we receive more information.
