Apple will reportedly refresh its entire iPad lineup next year
If 2023 feels a little strange, it's probably because we didn't get any new iPads this year. Interestingly, this is the first year ever that Apple didn't announce any new iPads.
The newest iPad in the lineup now is the 6th-generation iPad Pro with the M2 chip, which was announced last October (a year ago) alongside the 10th-generation basic iPad.
The iPad Air is now 1.5 years old and the iPad Mini is just over two years old.
According to the noted Apple analyst Mark Gurman, new iPads aren't ready yet and Apple intends to update the entire lineup next year. He writes:
Apple could have tried to rush out more new products, but revamped iPads and AirPods aren’t yet ready. The company plans to update its entire iPad lineup during 2024. New low-end AirPods are coming next year as well, with a refreshed Pro model following in 2025.
Now that Apple has unveiled its M3 generation of chips, the time is also ripe for new iPads. If Apple follows tradition, expect to see the M3 chip feature in the new iPad Pro and iPad Air.
The new iPad Pro could be interesting because it is rumoured to have an OLED display instead of a mini-LED one, and it's also expected to feature a new Magic Keyboard.
