OnePlus is the latest Chinese phone brand to announce a partnership with Sony, which will see the OnePlus 12 use the latter's mobile image sensor.

In a Weibo post, OnePlus shared that the OnePlus 12 will be the first phone to use Sony's new Lytia image sensor.

The new Lytia image sensor, which is said to be the 50MP IMX966, is likely to use Sony's two-layer transistor pixel technology which delivers better low-light photography performance.

Parent company Oppo announced a partnership with Sony in September which will see dual-layer stacked Sony Lytia sensors being used on its future flagship phones.

Vivo shared in August that it is collaborating with Sony to develop customised Lytia sensors for the Vivo X series. The customised Lyita sensor is tipped to be the LYT800, a 1/1.4-inch premium-grade sensor with a two-layer transistor pixel structure for excellent saturation signal level.

The OnePlus 12 is expected to debut in Q1 2024. Purported renders of the device show a new rectangular camera module and periscope lens. Other rumoured specs include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, up to 24GB RAM, and a 2K display that is dubbed "the most advanced 2K display" with "far more than 2,600 nits of brightness".
