OnePlus previews its first foldable phone, shows off gapless hinge design
OnePlus has given an official preview of its first foldable phone, the OnePlus Open in an exclusive interview with the YouTube channel Unbox Therapy.
Pete Lau, who is the founder of OnePlus and Oppo chief product officer, shared some details about the OnePlus Open during the interview which include a new gapless hinge design.
To prove that the hinge is really gapless, Lau closed theOnePlus Open with a piece of paper in between, and dangled the OnePlus Open from the piece of paper.
Lau says the company has more than 600 patents on the hinge design. While the gapless hinge looks like the one on the Oppo Find N2, Lau states it is actually 37% smaller and has 31 fewer components.
Other than the hinge, the video also revealed that the OnePlus Open will have an alert slider. The alert slider is an iconic feature of OnePlus phones (except for the OnePlus 10T) which allows users to easily switch between ring, silent, and vibrate modes.
Several parts of the OnePlus Open such as the camera bump were covered up by paper. Based on leaked renders in June, the camera bump is huge and protrudes from the rear with three cameras.
Other rumoured specs of the OnePlus Open include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 2 chip, a 2K 120Hz AMOLED display, a 4,800mAh battery, and support for 100W SuperVOOCfast-charging.
OnePlus is expected to officially unveil the device on 19 October. In the meantime, you can check out the full interview in the video below:
