You can officially use two WhatsApp accounts on one phone, but there's a catch

WhatsApp allows you to have two accounts logged in at the same time on the same phone.

WhatsApp is officially supporting two accounts on one phone!

In a blog post, WhatsApp says it is "introducing the ability to have two WhatsApp accounts logged in at the same time" on the same phone without the user having to log out or carry two phones around. This could be useful if, for example, you have separate numbers for work and personal use.

The option can be accessed via Settings > Arrow next to your name > Add account. However, there's a catch: you need to have both SIM cards active on the same phone. In other words, this means that your smartphone needs to support dual SIM cards.

While most Android smartphone users should not face much of an issue as their SIM card trays typically support two physical SIM cards, it is not as straightforward for iPhone users.

While the iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and newer models support dual SIMs, these devices have a SIM card tray that only supports one physical SIM card. This means the other line has to be an eSIM, which according to Apple's support page, is currently only offered by M1. The other telcos don't offer the use of an eSIM with an iPhone.

For iPhone users, this means that unless you have an M1 line, you could be missing out on this feature.
